National Favourite Crayfish Makes Its Way into Hong Kong's Bar Chains
2026-10-25 to 2026-10-25Is your product still able to compete in the ever-shrinking stock market on the Mainland? After all the involution, profits grow thinner and people grow more exhausted.
But just across the river in Hong Kong, plenty of demand remains untapped. Mainland eating habits are quietly becoming a new consumer trend in Hong Kong.
Recently, Jade Premium's sales team achieved exactly this:
Connecting a Mainland crayfish manufacturer with Bar Pacific, Hong Kong's largest bar chain with more than 50 outlets, opening a new door for Mainland manufacturers to supply Hong Kong.
I. How big is the Hong Kong market?

In the 2025/26 academic year, the number of non-local students enrolled in Hong Kong universities reached 108,600, a 1.3-fold increase over seven years, with Mainland students accounting for the vast majority.
At the same time, in the first half of 2026, Shenzhen–Hong Kong land crossings recorded 45.715 million northbound trips by Hong Kong residents, averaging more than 250,000 per day. In a Visa survey, 49% of Hong Kong respondents regarded trips to Mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area as a weekly or monthly routine, with food accounting for 67% of their motivation for northbound spending.
On one side, Mainland stomachs are flooding into Hong Kong; on the other, Hong Kong feet are frequently crossing into the Mainland. Behind this two-way flow of people lies a realignment of food demand.
Jade Premium's sales team spotted a potential market opportunity: crayfish.
Crayfish is one of the most competitive and mature categories in Mainland foodservice. In 2025, national aquaculture output reached 3.75 million tonnes, with more than 61,000 specialised stores, and above-scale processing enterprises generating annual sales of RMB 9.02 billion.
Behind the boom, a large number of manufacturers have flooded into the market. The cake is only so big, yet crayfish can be found on every street corner — from night-market stalls to chain brands, from online takeaway to offline prepared dishes... Every price band, every channel and every scenario has people fighting desperately.
Interestingly, however, a hit product from the Mainland has not yet spread in Hong Kong, where the number of Hong Kong drifters is rising year by year. Our team's judgement was sharp and direct: this is the opportunity!
And so Mainland crayfish successfully made it onto the tables of more than 50 bars in Hong Kong.
II. Why choose bars?

Bars are the social setting with the highest concentration of local young people and Hong Kong drifters, offering flexible average spend, low decision thresholds and high repeat purchase rates. More importantly, many Hong Kong bars have no back kitchen, making them a natural fit for prepared dishes. The crayfish tails we selected use liquid-nitrogen freshness locking and are ready to eat after heating — not even the kitchen needs to be modified.
How well does crayfish fit Hong Kong?
First, the number of Hong Kong drifters longing for the taste of home from the Mainland is rising year by year; second, eating crayfish in a bar naturally carries social sharing appeal; on price, HK$68 is not expensive in Hong Kong bar spending; finally, on the product side, liquid-nitrogen freshness-locked crayfish can be supplied stably without seasonal restrictions.
Of course, bars are only the first step. Once proven, late-night food stalls, cha chaan tengs and takeaway platforms — in Hong Kong's hundred-billion-dollar foodservice market, an even bigger map awaits.
Mainland food preferences are flowing into Hong Kong, and local acceptance of Mainland cuisine continues to rise. Crayfish is only the beginning. Any product caught in frenzied involution on the Mainland is very likely to carve out its own space in the Hong Kong market.
But for most Mainland food enterprises, what truly chokes them is not the product, but the systemic capability for going global: compliance access for Hong Kong-bound food, inspection and quarantine, cold-chain logistics, channel matchmaking...
Every link has thresholds, and every link needs someone familiar with the Hong Kong market to lead the way.
This is exactly what Jade Premium does. We focus on Hong Kong-bound services for Mainland food, providing one-stop implementation solutions from qualification compliance, export customs declaration and cold-chain transport to channel matchmaking.
